Major Releases

• July 2005: First release of the Plant Structure Development Stages Ontology

  First release of the Developmental Ontology for flowering plants. This ontology is a set of controlled vocabulary ("ontology") terms that describe the developmental stages of organs and organ systems of a 'generic' flowering plant. The Developmental Ontology supplements previously-released ontologies that describe anatomy, morphology, and growth stages of a plant, and is designed for use by plant databases and researchers to describe the effects of genes, mutations and environmental permutations on plant structure and growth using a standardized terminology.

• April 2005: First release of the Growth and Developmental Stages Ontology

  First release of controlled vocabulary terms describing the whole plant growth stages of a 'generic' flowering plant. This aspect of the Plant Ontology encompasses Arabidopsis, soybean, maize rice and Triticaceae. The new release also includes over 400 gene annotations from two participating databases, Gramene and TAIR.

• December 2004: First release of gene annotations

  First release of gene annotations for Arabidopsis, rice and maize associated to the Plant Structure Ontology terms. Over 3,000 gene annotations from three species-specific databases, TAIR, Gramene and MaizeGDB, can now be queried and retrieved using our ontology browser, the Plant Ontology AmiGO. You can perform searches using plant ontology terms and gene symbols; filtering options allow you to retrieve annotations for all or a subset of species.

• July 2004: First release of the Plant Structure Ontology

  July 2004 was the first release of the Plant Structure Ontology - a set of controlled vocabulary terms describing the anatomy and morphology of a 'generic' flowering plant. This ontology is the first step in our effort to integrate species-specific vocabulary terms into unified flowering-plant ontologies to describe structure and developmental stages of rice, maize, Arabidopsis and other angiosperms.

• January 2004: First release of the Plant Ontology Website

  Plant Ontology Consortium Web site (http://www.plantontology.org) is now open for business. The POC is a multi-institution cooperative effort to develop a robust and general controlled vocabulary of plant anatomy and developmental terms. We hope that the Plant Ontology will become as useful for describing the site and timing of genes, mutants and traits in plants. web site will act as the communications hub for this project where you will be able to:
  • Review the current status of the project
  • Get the calendar of POC users' group meetings
  • Browse the developers' mailing list archives
  • Search and download the integrated Plant Ontology itself
  • Provide feedback to the project
  • Become more involved with the project using our contact information is available at the web site
